Responding to Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s invitation for a debate on the Bidadi Township Project, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy suggested holding the meeting in the affected Bidadi region instead of Vidhana Soudha. Kumaraswamy emphasized the importance of involving affected farmers, villagers, and stakeholders in the discussions for a meaningful outcome. He highlighted the potential adverse impact of the project on the environment and local livelihoods.
Kumaraswamy proposed conducting the meeting in Bidadi or Bhairamangala to allow the participation of various stakeholders, including farmers, villagers, laborers, and traders. He clarified that he had no personal interest in the project’s formulation or execution. Due to a prior commitment on June 26, Kumaraswamy recommended holding the meeting on June 27 in either Bidadi or Bhairamangala as suggested.
Earlier, Kumaraswamy had challenged Shivakumar to a public debate on the township project, questioning its benefits to the public. He raised concerns about the project’s impact on farmers and criticized its potential to benefit individuals unfairly. Kumaraswamy also mentioned ongoing protests against the project and announced the intention to take legal action against it.
