Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee chief Harshwardhan Sapkal accused the BJP-led Mahayuti of winning the municipal corporation elections through fraudulent means, including fake voting, money distribution, and alleged Election Commission support. He criticized the BJP’s victory in Mumbai, claiming it was a result of manipulation from ward formation to various election irregularities. Sapkal expressed concern over the state of democracy, citing issues like money distribution, fake voters, and Election Commission mismanagement, indicating a crisis in fair election practices.
Sapkal highlighted that despite the Congress’s performance in the municipal elections not being entirely satisfactory, the party fought based on its ideology, aiming to emerge as the primary opposition force in the state. He mentioned the potential for Congress to secure mayor positions in five cities, have 350 councillors, and share power in ten other cities, reflecting the party’s organizational growth and public support. The municipal elections coincided with Sankranti, with Congress establishing itself as the second-largest party in the state through independent and alliance-based contesting strategies.
In the face of alleged extensive funding and irregular voting by the ruling alliance, Sapkal praised Congress workers for their resilience against the BJP’s tactics, emphasizing the importance of ideological battles and worker dedication. He commended the victorious candidates and workers, underscoring the party’s commitment to continuing the struggle for its principles. Despite setbacks, Sapkal affirmed Congress’s readiness for future challenges and its unwavering determination in the ongoing ideological fight.
