The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (MFDA) has issued a public warning regarding three cosmetic products due to high levels of mercury and lead found in laboratory tests. The products identified as problematic are Goree Beauty Cream, Face Fresh Gold (Beauty Cream + Beauty Serum), and Golden Star Beauty Cream. These products were deemed substandard as they contained heavy metals exceeding permissible limits, posing serious health risks to consumers. Prolonged use of these cosmetics could lead to severe health issues, including harm to the kidneys, nervous system, and skin. Consumers are advised to cease using, buying, or distributing these items immediately.
The investigation by the MFDA also revealed that the flagged products did not meet mandatory labeling requirements. Essential information such as the manufacturer’s details, batch number, manufacturing and expiry dates were missing, raising concerns about the products’ authenticity and safety. As a response, the MFDA has instructed retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and e-commerce platforms in Maharashtra to halt the sale and stocking of these items. Businesses are required to report the quantity of recalled products and remaining stock to the FDA.
The MFDA emphasizes the importance of purchasing cosmetic products only from authorized sellers and verifying that the packaging includes all necessary product information. The public is urged to avoid unverified cosmetic products and report any suspicious or unlabeled beauty items in the market to the authorities promptly. The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is the state’s regulatory body overseeing the safety, quality, and compliance of food, medicines, and cosmetics, operating under the Medical Education and Drugs Department. The FDA enforces critical laws like the Food Safety and Standards Act to ensure public health protection through inspections and regulatory measures.
