Following extensive discussions and meetings among top BJP leaders, the ruling Mahayuti alliance has settled on a seat-sharing deal for the upcoming election to fill 17 Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) seats. The election, scheduled for June 18, will involve elected members of local bodies as voters. The deadline for filing nominations is Monday.
In this arrangement, BJP will vie for 11 seats, Shiv Sena for 4, and NCP for 2. The BJP secured the majority of seats by emphasizing its advantage in local body numbers. Out of the 11 BJP candidates, 10 are contesting for regular six-year terms, while one candidate is running for the Nagpur bypoll seat.
The BJP’s nominees and their designated constituencies include Prajakt Tanpure for Ahilyanagar, Arun Lakhani for Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli, Dr. Rajiv Potdar for the Nagpur bypoll seat, and others in various regions. Shiv Sena, led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, initially aimed for 7 seats but settled for 4 after discussions with BJP leadership. NCP, under Sunetra Pawar’s leadership, secured 2 seats, including Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg.
