The leaders discussed enhancing relations between India and Malaysia, transitioning from longstanding ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2024.
The Malaysian PM underscored the importance of collaboration in various sectors, including trade, investment, digital economy, and defense, aiming to deepen ties between the two nations. Both leaders exchanged 11 documents, extending beyond traditional bilateral agreements to encompass cooperation in semiconductor, healthcare, and security. Ibrahim also highlighted the potential for expanded trade cooperation with India, surpassing the $8.59 billion mark achieved in 2025.
Emphasizing educational and cultural exchanges, Ibrahim noted the pivotal role of educational ties between the two countries. He praised India’s educational institutions and expressed a desire to increase the number of students studying in India. Additionally, the Malaysian PM emphasized the significance of tourism and connectivity in strengthening bilateral relations. Ibrahim concluded by announcing his support for India’s decision to open a consulate in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, as a gesture of goodwill.
