Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee faced chaos during her party’s protest procession in Kolkata against a minor’s alleged rape and murder in Baruipur. The Trinamool Congress faction, led by Banerjee, organized the march from Ballygunge outpost to Hazra Crossing in south Kolkata as per the Calcutta High Court’s directive.
As the procession advanced, tensions rose with slogans of “Chor Chor” (thief) and reported clashes between BJP and Trinamool Congress workers. Allegations of assaults on Trinamool Congress workers surfaced amidst the chaos.
In an attempt to calm the crowd gathered outside her Kalighat residence, Banerjee lost her temper and slapped a party worker publicly. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar criticized Banerjee’s actions, attributing them to her mental state post her removal from power.
Banerjee later criticized the police’s role and labeled the protesters in Baruipur as “rioters.” She expressed concerns over the police’s handling of the situation and accused them of favoring BJP workers, leading to unrest and condemning their actions.
