Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh participated in the closing ceremony of the 34th Manipur State Taekwondo Championship-2026 at the Khuman Lampak Indoor stadium in Imphal. Stressing the benefits of sports, he highlighted how they enhance physical strength and develop mental resilience, discipline, and character. Singh emphasized that martial arts practice fosters habits like early rising, effective time management, and self-discipline.
Singh pointed out that sports also enhance endurance and focus, crucial qualities for daily life. He mentioned that martial arts instill values such as honesty, responsibility, and perseverance. Notably, Singh was honored with the prestigious 5th-Dan Black Belt in traditional Taekwondo by the Global Traditional Taekwondo Federation in Seoul, South Korea, last December.
Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh, speaking at the event, underlined the significance of instilling discipline in children early on to help them succeed in sports and life. He called for a transparent and unbiased selection process to nurture talent and produce top athletes. The four-day championship, with 32 participating teams, showcased the enthusiasm and competitive spirit of Taekwondo in Manipur.
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister awarded prizes to the winners and commended all participants for their dedication. The event was graced by MLA Tongbram Robindro Singh, Director of Youth Affairs and Sports Mayengbam Veto Singh, President of the Manipur Olympic Association Sunil Elangbam, officials from the Youth Affairs and Sports Department, players, and other dignitaries. Subsequently, Singh inspected road construction progress at Thangal Bazar, emphasizing timely completion and quality execution for public convenience.
