The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced that the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II for solar photovoltaic (PV) cells will not be extended beyond June 1, 2026. Projects commissioned after this date must adhere to the ALMM List-II provisions. However, Net-Metering and Open Access projects commissioned before the deadline will remain exempt.
Stakeholders had differing views on extending the deadline, with some in favor and others against any relaxation. MNRE, after reviewing industry feedback and wider consultations, decided against a blanket extension. The ministry considered an Office Memorandum from the Department of Expenditure advising caution due to the West Asia situation possibly being classified as war.
While no universal extension will be granted, certain renewable energy projects may receive time extensions on a case-by-case basis to safeguard existing investments. Projects with completed solar module installations awaiting commissioning or those with significant implementation progress may be eligible for relief. Developers seeking extensions beyond June 1, 2026, must provide claims and supporting documents through a dedicated portal by June 30, 2026.
