A minor grandson has been detained for the alleged murder of his elderly grandmother on suspicion of practicing witchcraft in the Mahmudpur area of Ramkrishnapur Gram Panchayat, South Dinajpur district. The police recovered the woman’s body and have detained the accused minor for further investigation.

The deceased, identified as Lakshmi Soren, was living with her son, daughter-in-law, grandson, and granddaughter. The accused reportedly believed his sister’s illness was caused by his grandmother’s alleged witchcraft practices, leading to verbal abuse and threats towards her.

Allegedly, the minor had been verbally abusing his grandmother for some time, accusing her of witchcraft practices. Despite attempts by family members to intervene, the accused allegedly dragged the elderly woman out of her house and assaulted her on Sunday night. The police were informed by a local panchayat member, but the woman passed away before their arrival.

The accused grandson has been detained by the Kumarganj police station, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. A police officer stated that the preliminary investigation suggests the grandmother was fatally beaten by her grandson due to suspicions of witchcraft. Family members are under investigation, and the incident has shocked local residents.
