Nasscom stated that any misconduct or harassment in the technology industry is dealt with seriously, with companies promptly taking necessary disciplinary measures. This response follows a recent sexual harassment case at Tata Consultancy Services’s Nashik facility, raising concerns in the sector. The industry body clarified that such incidents are rare and not indicative of systemic problems.
Highlighting the industry’s standards, Nasscom emphasized that the Indian IT sector prioritizes respect, dignity, and safety, operating under strict governance frameworks and clear workplace conduct norms. The organization reiterated its commitment to employee safety and well-being, maintaining a zero-tolerance stance on inappropriate behavior.
Companies have enhanced preventive and grievance redressal mechanisms, backed by defined codes of conduct and compliance with legal regulations to ensure timely and fair handling of complaints. Maintaining safe and accountable work environments is crucial for upholding trust within the industry, Nasscom stressed.
The industry’s response came after allegations of mental and sexual harassment by senior colleagues at the Nashik facility, with claims that the HR department did not address the complaints. In light of these accusations, police have arrested seven individuals, and all accused employees have been suspended. Nasscom reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to employee safety and zero tolerance for any misconduct.
