The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has joined the search for a two-year-old girl, Sunkara Gnaneswari, who went missing on June 6 from a palm oil plantation in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district. In response to Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s directive, the NDRF is now involved in the search efforts.
Apart from the NDRF, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and a 40-member SDRF team, along with personnel from various departments, are tirelessly working to locate the missing child. Unfortunately, the search was hindered by the death of the pet dog that was with the girl when she disappeared.
The pet dog, which had covered nearly 80 km with a GPS tracker, returned home on June 9 but died shortly after, showing signs of illness. Authorities suspect the dog may have contracted a virus and have sent its body for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Drones are also being used in the search operation, with a reward of Rs one lakh announced for any information leading to the girl’s whereabouts.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has instructed the utilization of NDRF teams alongside the ongoing search operations by police and SDRF teams. The district administration is deploying advanced drones and examining CCTV footage to aid in the search efforts. State Home Minister V. Anitha is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with district officials to ensure a comprehensive search operation.
