Aligning India’s apprenticeship initiatives with global best practices can benefit both industries and youth by creating a dynamic and high-quality apprenticeship system.
NITI Aayog has released a policy report titled “Revitalizing Apprenticeship Ecosystem: Insights, Challenges, Recommendations and Best Practices,” offering a detailed analysis of India’s apprenticeship scenario. The report includes 20 action-oriented recommendations, an action plan, and specific responsibilities for implementation along with measurable performance metrics.
The apprenticeship system is highlighted as a key component of India’s skilling and employment strategy, aiming to strengthen it through actionable recommendations and addressing challenges. Dr. Arvind Virmani from NITI Aayog emphasized the pivotal role of apprenticeships in shaping a skilled and future-ready workforce, aligning with India’s vision of Viksit Bharat at 2047.
The report outlines recommendations across five pillars, including policy reforms, regulatory strengthening, industry engagement, and support mechanisms for apprentices and aspirants. It also showcases best practices from various sources, positioning apprenticeships as a strategic investment in human capital and national competitiveness.
India’s presence in global electronics demand has grown significantly, with a compound annual growth rate of 17.2% between 2015 and 2024, surpassing the global growth rate. The country’s focus has shifted towards component manufacturing and higher value addition in the electronics sector, building on its strong foundation in assembly and system integration.
