Pakistan has revealed a 16-member squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Captain Shan Masood will lead the team in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle. Currently placed fifth on the WTC table with a 50 percent points tally, Pakistan aims to enhance their position against Bangladesh, who are in eighth place. The series, commencing on May 8, will feature four uncapped players selected by the strategizing selectors.
Abdullah Fazal, Amad Butt, Azan Awais, and Ghazi Ghori have earned their maiden Test call-ups. Fazal and Awais, left-handed batters, secured their spots through consistent domestic cricket performances. Butt, a bowling all-rounder with experience since 2015, brings valuable skills. Wicketkeeper-batter Ghori, who recently debuted in ODIs against Bangladesh, adds international exposure to the squad.
The team comprises seasoned players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Noman Ali, Sajid Khan, and Salman Ali Agha, ensuring a blend of youth and experience. Ahead of the tour, players not involved in the Pakistan Super League will convene in Karachi for a red-ball training camp from April 27 to May 1 to prepare adequately.
For the upcoming tour, the Pakistan Cricket Board has introduced a new coaching setup. Former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed will lead as head coach, with Asad Shafiq as batting coach and Umar Gul as bowling coach. The first Test is scheduled from May 8 to 12 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, followed by the second Test from May 16 to 20 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
