For the youth in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana is more than just a government scheme. It has become a pathway to employment, evident in the scenes outside the Tendukheda Post Office where young beneficiaries are seen carrying their toolkits on motorcycles. Originating from Sarra village, two young men embraced the challenges to fulfill their aspirations, finding success through the PM Vishwakarma scheme. Launched in 2023, this scheme aims to provide comprehensive support to artisans and craftspeople in 18 traditional trades, equipping them with necessary skills and tools. Beneficiaries like Suresh have benefited from free vocational training and toolkits, enabling them to explore new opportunities and enhance their livelihoods.
Many individuals, including 25-year-old Parmanand Kurmi, have shared their success stories, highlighting how the scheme has positively impacted their lives and communities. The government provides beneficiaries with toolkits worth ₹15,000 upon completion of their training, containing essential tools to practice their skills and establish sustainable livelihoods. Through initiatives like the PM Vishwakarma scheme, traditional artisans and craftspersons in villages are being integrated into formal market systems, empowering them economically and socially. The scheme, which has received 2.72 crore applications for selection and registered around 30,000 artisans as of January 22, 2026, continues to make a significant difference in the lives of beneficiaries.
