National Award-winning filmmaker Prakash Jha addressed the issue of smaller films struggling against big-budget movies for screen space. Jha, who owns a multiplex in Jamshedpur, emphasized the challenges faced by small films in the Indian theatre industry. He mentioned that while there is room for all types of films, many small productions opt for direct OTT releases due to the financial constraints associated with theatrical distribution. Jha highlighted the costs involved in theatrical releases, such as theater rentals, marketing expenses, and technical requirements, which often impact the profitability of small films.
Jha shared insights from his multiplex, revealing that despite the competition, numerous small budget films manage to secure screenings. He emphasized the importance of creating engaging content that resonates with audiences, regardless of the film’s budget or theme. According to Jha, successful filmmaking involves understanding the audience and effectively communicating the intended message to ensure a meaningful connection with viewers.
