Several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers held a sit-in protest in Rawalpindi as they were once again refused a meeting with their chairman, Imran Khan, who is in Adiala Jail. The Islamabad police stopped Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and others from reaching the jail, leading to arguments and a sit-in that ended the next day, as per local reports.
Afridi, expressing solidarity with Imran’s sisters, criticized the police’s actions, calling it undemocratic and discriminatory. Despite facing obstacles, he commended PTI workers for their peaceful conduct during the protest. The incident sparked condemnation from various quarters, including the Human Rights Council of Pakistan.
Videos shared by PTI and reports from local media depicted the tense situation at Chungi No. 26, where police clashed with protesters. The party demanded Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical treatment under the care of his personal doctors and family members. The ongoing restrictions on meeting Khan have led to regular protests outside Adiala Jail by PTI members.
Special assistant Shafi Jan highlighted the use of force against protesters, emphasizing the importance of upholding citizens’ right to peaceful protest. The situation has drawn attention to the treatment of political figures and the need for a more tolerant and lawful approach to addressing grievances.
