Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh led ceremonies for the inauguration and foundation stone-laying of three National Highway projects in Uttar Pradesh, including the Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway, valued at over Rs 4,850 crore. The new expressway is anticipated to significantly reduce travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur to just 30–35 minutes.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also participated in the events. Rajnath Singh expressed confidence that the expressway would bring development to small towns and villages, benefiting present and future generations. He highlighted the importance of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway in connecting the districts of Lucknow, Kanpur, and Unnao.
Rajnath Singh commended the rapid development in the state under CM Adityanath, emphasizing the efficient law and order system. Gadkari outlined additional projects, including the Lucknow-Sitapur travel time of about 50 minutes and the Ayodhya–Gonda road project costing Rs 3,400 crore. The focus is on enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time for the residents.
