Rebel Trinamool Congress MP Jagadish Barma Basunia has verified a letter signed by 19 party MPs, asserting themselves as the primary bloc in the Lok Sabha. Basunia disclosed that the dissent arose before the Assembly poll results due to a lack of consultation with MPs and senior leaders regarding candidate nominations.
In an interview, Basunia acknowledged signing a letter with 18 other rebel MPs, outlining their reasons for forming a separate faction in the Lok Sabha. He emphasized their demand for recognition as the authentic Trinamool Congress.
Basunia criticized the party’s candidate selection process for the Assembly polls, stating that MPs were unaware of the ticket distribution within their constituencies until the official announcements. He attributed the party’s shift in power dynamics to Abhishek Banerjee and I-PAC, leading to frustration among MLAs and MPs.
Blaming Abhishek Banerjee for Trinamool’s defeat in the Assembly elections, Basunia highlighted the importance of consulting party leaders in candidate selection to avoid such outcomes. He denied allegations of being a “B-Team” of the BJP, asserting that their decision was independent and aimed at serving the people’s interests.
The rebel Trinamool MP assured that all signatories to the letter are committed to their cause and emphasized their focus on working for the people’s welfare in the absence of a Trinamool government in Bengal. Collaboration with the BJP government was seen as a means to continue developmental work for the state.
