Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi recently had a phone conversation regarding freedom of navigation and Iran’s nuclear program. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that both ministers also talked about ending hostilities and stabilizing the situation in the Middle East. Russia expressed support for mediation efforts and a diplomatic process to establish lasting peace in the region.
The discussion also touched on the passage of Russian vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier, on April 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the Iranian Foreign Minister in St. Petersburg to discuss bilateral cooperation and Middle East affairs. Putin emphasized Moscow’s commitment to strengthening ties with Iran and working towards peace in the region. He also mentioned receiving a message from Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
During the meeting, Putin assured Iran of Russia’s support in achieving peace and stability in the Middle East. The two countries aim to collaborate for the benefit of the region and its people. The dialogue highlighted the importance of diplomatic efforts and mutual cooperation for a peaceful resolution to ongoing challenges.
