A tragic incident occurred at Sam in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district as a powerful sandstorm led to the collapse of a wall at a heritage resort during a cultural performance. The event took place on Monday night while a traditional Rajasthani cultural evening was ongoing for tourists, resulting in the death of a local folk artist and injuries to four others.
Reports indicate that strong winds and a severe sandstorm hit the area, causing panic among resort visitors. The wall next to the performance area crumbled under the storm’s impact, trapping performers under the debris. Sadly, 27-year-old folk artist Ramzan Khan lost his life on the spot, while two female dancers and two accompanying artists sustained severe injuries.
Sam, known for its dunes and cultural performances, hosts nightly cultural programs during the tourist season. The incident occurred during a folk music and dance event at the heritage resort when weather conditions suddenly worsened.
Witnesses described how the wind speed escalated rapidly, shaking temporary structures inside the resort. The collapsing wall fell directly on the artists amidst the storm, prompting immediate rescue efforts by locals and resort staff. Despite their efforts, Ramzan Khan succumbed to his injuries, while the injured performers were initially treated at the local health center before being referred to the District Hospital in Jaisalmer for further care.
Police and local authorities swiftly responded to the scene upon receiving the news. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain whether negligence or substandard construction contributed to the wall’s collapse.
