Security agencies are closely monitoring the activities of Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), an offshoot of Jamaat ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). The JMB aims to reactivate IMK to target northeastern India and West Bengal, recruiting individuals asked to return to Bangladesh. The states of Assam and West Bengal are under scrutiny due to this development.
The JMB views the current drive against illegal immigration as an opportunity to revive IMK modules. Through IMK, the JMB plans to exploit the issue and carry out terror attacks in the targeted states. Social media platforms have seen an increase in IMK’s activities, spreading misinformation on illegal immigration and recruiting those urged to go back to Bangladesh.
IMK recruiters have been strategically positioned near border areas to engage with illegal immigrants. They are establishing recruitment and radicalization camps to further their agenda. The group has reverted to its previous motto of Radicalization, Recruitment, and Bayath (oath), seeking assistance from operatives of Al-Qaeda and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
