A 17-year-old boxer and her mother have accused a boxing coach at a prominent Bengaluru Stadium of sexual harassment. The case, registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and criminal intimidation laws, is being investigated by the police within Sampangiramnagar’s jurisdiction. The victim’s mother lodged the complaint on May 22, revealing that her daughter had been training at the Lions Boxing Club for ten years.
The accused, a 50-year-old coach, allegedly harassed the minor girl for four years, with incidents escalating in the past few months. The complaint mentions inappropriate physical contact and misconduct by the coach at Kanteerava Stadium. An incident on May 17 in Chennai is highlighted, where the coach reportedly made advances towards the minor in his private room. The victim was threatened with dire consequences if she disclosed the abuse to her family.
The complaint also indicates a prior submission to an internal committee regarding the harassment. The mother emphasized that the coach aimed for a physical relationship with her daughter and resorted to verbal abuse and threats. An ongoing investigation is addressing the allegations against the accused coach.
