The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) criticized the BJP-led government for its management of the current economic and fuel crisis, dubbing it the “Stay-at-Home” government. The party expressed concerns in its editorial in ‘Saamana’ about the impact of self-serving policies on state-run oil and gas companies like ONGC, which are facing financial challenges. It urged the BJP to donate funds from its accounts, including those in the PM CARES Fund, to the national treasury.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s recent advice on curbing travel and fuel usage, the editorial highlighted the contrast between public directives and the PM’s international travels. While citizens are urged to stay home for the country’s benefit, the editorial questioned the necessity of the PM’s extensive security convoy during past years. It emphasized the need for consistency in leadership actions.
The editorial noted a shift in political stances, citing examples of leaders adapting to changing circumstances. It mentioned Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ support for fuel-saving measures, including his symbolic motorcycle ride to Vidhan Bhavan. Despite such gestures, the editorial criticized instances of perceived extravagance, such as separate chartered flights for political events.
The Shiv Sena raised concerns about ONGC’s financial decline under the current government, highlighting a significant increase in debt compared to previous years. It also pointed out a decrease in domestic oil production, attributing it to policy decisions affecting the fuel sector. The editorial criticized the government’s foreign policy choices, suggesting they contribute to the ongoing fuel crisis in India.
