Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra emphasized that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) must deliver an exceptional performance against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to secure a top-two spot in the standings. The upcoming match between the 2016 winners and the defending champions will take place at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, which marks SRH’s final group stage game on Friday. Currently, RCB leads the table with 18 points from 13 games and a net run rate of +1.065, while Gujarat Titans hold the second spot with 18 points in 14 matches and a net run rate of +0.695.
Chopra outlined the scenario for SRH to surpass RCB and GT’s net run rate, indicating that it would demand an extraordinary effort from the team. With 16 points from 13 games, SRH could reach 18 points like RCB and GT, but they would need a significant victory margin to offset their lower net run rate of +0.350 and secure a top-two position. He mentioned that achieving this feat would require remarkable performances, whether batting first and scoring over 200 runs with a substantial winning margin or chasing a target between 160 and 200 within approximately 11 overs.
In terms of head-to-head records, Sunrisers hold a slight advantage over the Challengers. Out of the 27 matches played between the two teams, SRH has emerged victorious in 14 encounters, while RCB has won 12 matches. Their most recent clash occurred in the opening match of IPL 2026, where RCB defeated SRH by 6 wickets at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
