The Supreme Court dismissed a PIL challenging the National Testing Agency’s decision to cancel the original NEET-UG 2026 examination and conduct a nationwide retest. The Court stated that the issue was no longer relevant as the re-examination had already been completed. The petitioner was advised to intervene in pending cases seeking reforms within the NTA.
Dr. Mangala Kohli, a former Assistant Director General of Health Services, filed the PIL through Advocate-on-Record Abhishek Chandra Mishra. The plea contested the NTA’s decision to cancel the NEET-UG 2026 exam due to alleged malpractice. The petitioner argued for the protection of candidates’ rights amidst allegations of fraud.
The petition highlighted the challenges faced by candidates due to the cancellation of the examination and the subsequent retest. It emphasized the need for thorough investigations into malpractice allegations without compromising the interests of genuine candidates. The plea also called for reforms in the examination process to prevent such incidents in the future.
The NEET-UG 2026 re-examination was successfully conducted by the National Testing Agency on June 21. Stringent security measures were implemented, including biometric verification, facial authentication, and real-time surveillance. The retest aimed to ensure transparency and integrity in one of the country’s largest entrance exams.
