Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to take oath as West Bengal’s inaugural BJP Chief Minister at Brigade Parade Ground on Saturday. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Union ministers, and chief ministers from all NDA-ruled states. Amit Shah officially declared Suvendu Adhikari as the next Chief Minister of West Bengal on Friday, marking the formation of the state’s first BJP-led government post-independence.
The decision to appoint Suvendu Adhikari as the leader of the BJP’s legislature party in the West Bengal Assembly was made during a meeting chaired by Amit Shah with the newly elected BJP legislators after the recent state elections. Adhikari’s name was unanimously endorsed in the meeting, solidifying his position as the upcoming Chief Minister of West Bengal. Amit Shah stated, “I proposed the name of Suvendu Adhikari as the next Chief Minister of West Bengal,” as no other names were put forward during the selection process.
Suvendu Adhikari emerged victorious in both his native Nandigram assembly constituency in East Midnapore district and the Bhabanipur assembly constituency in South Kolkata. Notably, he defeated the former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur by a significant margin. Adhikari, known as a ‘giant-killer,’ secured his position as the preferred choice to lead the BJP’s inaugural government in West Bengal with this latest triumph.
