Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin introduced a specialized election manifesto for Chennai district known as ‘Chennai Super 6’. The manifesto comprises 20 declarations focusing on infrastructure, mobility, urban amenities, and future economic growth initiatives.
One of the key promises in the manifesto is the enhancement of facilities in Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board apartments through government funding channeled via Residents’ Welfare Women Associations.
To combat water scarcity, the government plans to establish RO-purified drinking water systems in areas without metro water connections, ensuring regular supply in regions already covered by the metro water network.
The manifesto also includes the installation of high-intensity street lighting in residential areas and the establishment of a top-notch cultural center to promote art, music, and literature.
In a significant move to enhance urban mobility, the DMK has committed to introducing 1,000 new mini buses to enhance last-mile connectivity by linking streets with bus stops, metro stations, and railway hubs.
Furthermore, an AI-based traffic management system will be implemented to alleviate congestion and reduce travel time by up to 25 percent.
The manifesto outlines a specific timeline for completing crucial infrastructure projects. Over ten major schemes, such as the Chennai Peripheral Road project from Ennore to Poonjeri, are set for completion by 2027. Metro rail expansion and stormwater drain works are projected to finish by 2028, while underground sewerage projects are slated for completion by 2027.
By 2029, the city aims to achieve world-class road infrastructure, featuring broader footpaths, shaded avenues, and accessible public toilets.
In addressing the issue of stray dogs, the government proposes a humane and scientific approach by reinforcing the Animal Birth Control program, tripling the number of veterinarians and dog catchers, and expanding shelters in collaboration with NGOs.
Looking ahead to the future economy, the manifesto suggests establishing a Global Centre of Excellence concentrating on AI, animation, visual effects, gaming, and immersive technologies, with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore and the potential to create 20,000 high-paying jobs.
A ‘Global Talent Gateway’ is also envisioned to offer advanced infrastructure, skill development, and research opportunities, positioning Chennai as a leading global hub for innovation and employment.
