Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay is set to visit the Tiruchy East Assembly constituency on Monday to express gratitude to voters and engage with the public following his success in the recent Assembly elections. Vijay, leading the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), won from both Perambur and Tiruchy East constituencies. He will retain Perambur and resign from Tiruchy East, triggering a by-election.
Sources mention that Vijay will fly from Chennai to Tiruchy and attend a public event at a college ground within the constituency. This visit is seen as a strategic move, especially with the anticipation of a by-election for Tiruchy East soon. In the elections, Vijay secured a significant win in Tiruchy East, garnering 91,381 votes and surpassing his closest competitor, DMK’s Inigo Irudayaraj, by 24,416 votes.
The visit is believed to be aimed at strengthening support in the constituency and boosting party morale ahead of the upcoming by-election. Vijay is also expected to thank voters for their role in TVK’s victory. The Tiruchy East by-election is likely to draw substantial political interest as it will be a crucial test for Vijay’s new government.
Moreover, Tamil Nadu is bracing for multiple other by-elections as four AIADMK legislators have switched to TVK, leaving vacancies in Perundurai, Dharapuram, Madurantakam, and Ambasamudram constituencies. With vacancies in Tiruchy East and the four seats vacated by former AIADMK members, the state could witness by-elections in five Assembly constituencies soon. Political parties are gearing up for what is expected to be a fiercely contested electoral battle.
