Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVMK) leader and former MLA T. Velmurugan criticized Tamil Nadu’s Acting Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar for allegedly undermining democratic principles and federalism. Velmurugan accused the Governor of exceeding his constitutional role through recent remarks and official activities in the state. He claimed that these actions were part of a larger attempt to weaken the federal structure and interfere with the state government’s functioning.
Velmurugan specifically pointed to the Governor’s visit to Madurai, where Arlekar commented on the Vaigai river’s condition. During a public event, the Governor emphasized the need for river restoration and urged the youth to take up the mission. Additionally, Arlekar conducted a review meeting with local officials to discuss the river’s status.
The TVMK leader also objected to the Governor’s statements at a book release event at Raj Bhavan, where Arlekar encouraged individuals to bring public grievances directly to him. Velmurugan criticized these actions as constitutionally inappropriate, suggesting that the Governor was overstepping his authority by involving himself in state matters. He called on the Tamil Nadu government to protect the state’s autonomy and resist what he perceived as central government interference.
