Telangana set a new record by procuring 70.82 lakh tonnes of paddy in the 2025-26 Kharif marketing season, surpassing the previous year’s procurement. This achievement has directly benefited around 14 lakh farmers in the state, with a total disbursement of ₹16,606 crore as Minimum Support Price and an additional ₹1,425 crore as a bonus.
The state’s Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister, Uttam Kumar Reddy, hailed this milestone as a significant success in paddy procurement. He emphasized that this accomplishment, termed a Sankranti bonanza for farmers, signifies a festival of gratitude, prosperity, and farmer welfare. Reddy reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare and prosperity of farmers in Telangana.
Out of the total paddy procured, 32.45 lakh tonnes were coarse paddy, while the remaining 38.37 lakh tonnes were of the fine variety. Farmers cultivating the fine variety received a bonus of Rs 500 per quintal. The Civil Supplies Department released ₹500 crore on the eve of Sankranti towards bonus payments for farmers, with a total bonus amount of ₹1,429 crore disbursed by the government.
In a previous announcement, Uttam Kumar Reddy highlighted that Telangana achieved an all-time high paddy production of 148.03 lakh tonnes during the kharif season, the highest in the country. This success was attributed to the state government’s agricultural policies under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. The state established 8,342 paddy procurement centers across 66.8 lakh acres to facilitate the purchase of paddy, further supporting the agricultural sector.
