Over 73% of voters participated in the municipal elections across 123 urban local bodies in Telangana. The State Election Commission reported a voter turnout of 73.01%, with polling stations open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In total, 52,17,413 voters were eligible to vote in 2,981 wards, out of which 38,09,406 voters cast their ballots. The voter turnout was higher in municipalities at 75.88% compared to 66.05% in municipal corporations.
Enthusiastic participation was observed, with senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and patients turning out to vote. The SEC deployed over 43,000 polling staff and arranged for webcasting at all polling centers.
State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini mentioned that the final polling percentage will be confirmed after receiving reports from all municipalities and corporations. Incidents were reported in some districts, including clashes between workers of political parties and police interventions.
Polling was conducted for 2,569 wards in 116 municipalities, with some candidates already elected unopposed. The SEC postponed polling in a ward following the unfortunate death of a BJP candidate.
In the seven municipal corporations, polling took place in 412 wards, with candidates from various parties contesting. Repolling, if necessary, will be held, and the election results are scheduled to be announced soon.
