Police in South 24 Parganas district arrested three Bangladeshi infiltrators for illegally entering and residing in India. A woman among them alleged that a local Trinamool Congress Panchayat member took money from them promising to arrange Aadhaar cards. The arrested couple, Shafiqul Islam Mollah and Monira Begum, were found to have crossed the border illegally and settled in the area.
Investigators are looking into how the couple managed to stay locally and suspect they were trying to obtain Indian identity documents. The police are interrogating the arrested individuals to determine their purpose for entering India and their local contacts. Monira Begum’s allegations against the Trinamool Congress member have added a new dimension to the case.
Monira Begum claimed that Shahjahan Sardar took money from them but failed to deliver the promised Aadhaar cards. The police are examining her complaint, and no response has been received from the accused public representative. Another Bangladeshi woman, Lakin Tanti, was arrested in a separate area, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain her entry and residency details.
The arrested individuals have been sent to holding centers, and the police are probing any potential links between them. The Superintendent of Police of Baruipur Police District mentioned that they had obtained significant information during the interrogation. However, due to the ongoing investigation, further details have not been disclosed.
