The police apprehended three BJP workers in connection with the shooting of a Trinamool Congress worker in Gosaba, West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. The incident occurred in the Bhupendrapur area of the Shambhungar gram panchayat on Sunday night. The victim, identified as Dibyendu Gayen, was shot in the right leg while returning home on a motorcycle after a party meeting.
Gayen, along with Trinamool Congress booth president Palash Mandal, was riding the bike when the assailants, reportedly four or five miscreants, attacked them. Gayen was immediately taken to Canning Sub-Divisional Hospital and later transferred to Chittaranjan Hospital in Kolkata for treatment. Palash Mondal, the booth president, identified one of the attackers as a BJP worker named Bhola Pramanik.
The Trinamool Congress alleged that the BJP workers targeted them as the BJP has no presence in the Gosaba area. Conversely, the BJP claimed that the incident stemmed from internal conflicts within Trinamool Congress. A senior officer from Baruipur Police District confirmed the arrest of the three individuals involved in the shooting and mentioned that they would be presented in court.
