Three additional individuals have been apprehended in connection with the recent clash between two groups in Kolkata’s Golpark area, bringing the total number of arrests to 23. Despite this, the primary suspect, Biswajit Poddar, also known as Sona Pappu, remains evasive, prompting questions from locals about his continued freedom. The latest arrests include Sougata Basu, Mintu Bhanja, and Prabir Pramanik, who were taken into custody by officers from Rabindra Sarobar police station.
Sougata and Mintu hail from the Kasba police station vicinity, while Prabir resides in the Rabindra Sarobar area in south Kolkata. Investigations have indicated their involvement in the criminal activities that occurred on February 1. Authorities are currently interrogating the detainees to ascertain the whereabouts of Sona Pappu, who has reportedly gone into hiding following the incident. The clash, which transpired on Kakulia Road in Golpark, resulted in three FIRs being filed at the Rabindra Sarobar police station.
The altercation, which erupted during a club picnic at Panchanantala near Golpark, involved two opposing groups, one led by local businessman Bapi Halder and the other by the Sona Pappu gang. Allegations suggest that Sona Pappu’s group aimed to assert dominance in the area, leading to confrontations with Bapi’s faction. Reports indicate that around 100-150 masked individuals instigated the violence, which included gunfire, bomb throwing, and the use of sharp weapons. The incident resulted in damage to police vehicles, motorcycles, and property in the vicinity.
