The Trinamool Congress in West Bengal has initiated the candidate selection process for the upcoming Assembly elections. Discussions have begun regarding the possible reassignment of constituencies for some prominent members of the state cabinet and veteran party legislators. Closed-door meetings have already been held to deliberate on potential candidates for the polls later this year.
Sources within the party revealed that existing cabinet members and veteran MLAs are being considered for fielding in different constituencies. Additionally, talks have focused on the renomination of current party legislators for organizational roles. The party is aiming to strike a balance between experienced members and fresh faces in the candidate lineup this election cycle.
Furthermore, there are plans to introduce new non-political figures, including celebrities and professionals from various fields like media, into the candidate list. The party is gearing up for potential surprises in its candidate selection process. Simultaneously, discussions have commenced for selecting candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in West Bengal on March 16.
Trinamool Congress is expected to secure four out of the five Rajya Sabha seats, leaving one for the Bharatiya Janata Party based on the parties’ respective strengths in the state Assembly. Among the assured seats for Trinamool Congress, three will be occupied by party stalwarts, while the fourth will go to a non-political individual with strong political connections in the national capital.
