Suspended Trinamool Congress leader Riju Dutta stated that the group of rebel party MPs seeking recognition as a “new bloc” in the Lok Sabha is expected to grow soon. These dissenting MPs, including Jagadish Barma Basunia, have confirmed their intention to meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday. Basunia verified a letter signed by 19 party MPs claiming to be the primary and majority bloc in the Lower House of Parliament.
Riju Dutta mentioned that the number of MPs supporting this move is likely to increase in the upcoming days. He revealed plans for a meeting on Sunday, possibly attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, and a subsequent meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday to formalize the formation of a separate group supporting the NDA. The dissenting MPs clarified that while they won’t join the BJP, they are willing to back the NDA.
Dutta highlighted the strategic advantage for the BJP in this scenario, as they gain support without officially incorporating the rebel MPs. He emphasized that the move is aimed at benefitting the country. Responding to queries about CID summons issued to Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee, Dutta indicated ongoing interrogations and suggested the possibility of Banerjee facing legal consequences.
Additionally, Dutta praised West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s rapid pace of work in the state, noting improvements in infrastructure and cleanliness initiatives. He commended the progress being made under Adhikari’s leadership, citing positive developments such as the revitalization of railway stations and efforts at the Ganga ghats.
