Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda criticized Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, during an event in Patna marking Constitution Murder Day. Nadda accused the Congress leadership of ignoring the Emergency period’s violations and urged them to acknowledge their actions.
Nadda highlighted that those who claim to protect the Constitution should first recognize the Emergency’s impact. He specifically called out Rahul Gandhi, demanding an apology for what he termed as unconstitutional measures during that time. The BJP leader condemned the Congress for amendments made during the Emergency that he believed undermined democratic principles.
Nadda labeled the Emergency of June 25, 1975, as a severe blow to Indian democracy and civil liberties. He praised Bihar’s role in resisting the Emergency and emphasized Patna’s significance in the fight for democracy. Nadda reminisced about the movement led by Jayaprakash Narayan and the call for Total Revolution at Gandhi Maidan in 1974.
The Union Minister recounted his involvement in the student protests against the Emergency and criticized the curtailment of press freedom and civil liberties during that period. Nadda highlighted the mass detentions, forced sterilizations, and suppression of dissent that characterized the Emergency era. He underscored the importance of educating future generations about the need to safeguard democratic values and constitutional principles.
