The process of vacating the official residence at 10 Circular Road in Patna, long associated with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leadership and the family of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, is progressing swiftly. CCTV cameras outside the bungalow have been removed, and the shifting of household belongings continues.
This development has sparked political discussions about the impending change at one of Bihar’s most significant political addresses. Rabri Devi, who has resided at 10 Circular Road since 2006, was initially allotted the government bungalow during her time as Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
Former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has also called the residence home for many years. Over nearly two decades, the bungalow has been a key hub of political activity for the RJD, hosting crucial meetings, organizational decisions, and election strategies.
The state government has reassigned the bungalow to Animal and Fisheries Resources Minister Nand Kishore Ram. Meanwhile, Rabri Devi has been allocated an official residence at 39 Harding Road in her role as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council.
Reports suggest that Rabri Devi had requested to continue occupying 10 Circular Road, but the Building Construction Department did not approve the request. The department has issued four notices to vacate the premises, with the final deadline set for June 29.
Construction and modifications are in progress at Rabri Devi’s new residence on Harding Road. There are speculations that the family may eventually move to their private residence under construction in Kautilya Nagar, as security equipment is being removed and the relocation process is ongoing.
For almost two decades, 10 Circular Road has been a significant political address, witnessing the RJD’s journey and challenges. The departure of Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav from the bungalow is seen as a symbolic moment in Bihar politics, marking the end of an era linked with one of the state’s most influential political families.
