The death toll from the recent earthquakes in Venezuela has climbed to 2,954, with 16,592 individuals sustaining injuries, as per National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez. Rodriguez mentioned that over 6,000 people have been rescued following the quakes that affected various states in the country. Additionally, 16,209 individuals are now without homes due to the disaster.
Authorities reported that 856 buildings were damaged, 190 structures collapsed, and 16,209 people are currently homeless. To aid those affected, 80 temporary camps have been established. Rescue efforts continue with 29,567 personnel, including 3,281 international rescuers, searching for survivors since the earthquakes struck.
Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, declared a seven-day national mourning period to honor the earthquake victims. She expressed solidarity with those affected and emphasized the country’s commitment to supporting and protecting them during this tragic time. The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, have resulted in significant human losses and aftershocks in Venezuela.
