Venezuela’s Supreme Court has named Vice President Delcy Rodriguez as the Interim President following an attack by the US on President Nicolas Maduro. The court’s decision aims to ensure the country’s administrative continuity and security. Rodriguez, a prominent figure in Venezuela’s socialist system, has held key positions such as Vice President, Finance Minister, and Oil Minister.
The Supreme Court plans to establish a legal framework to maintain state continuity, government operations, and sovereignty during Maduro’s absence. Known for her strong support of Maduro, Rodriguez has played a crucial role in Venezuela’s economic affairs amid challenges like US sanctions and high inflation. She has swiftly risen through the political ranks over the past decade, with Maduro praising her as a resilient and revolutionary leader.
Rodriguez, who also serves as the nation’s chief economic authority, has been entrusted with overseeing Venezuela’s oil industry amidst escalating US sanctions. Despite US President Donald Trump acknowledging her as Maduro’s successor, Rodriguez denounced US aggression and emphasized Maduro’s legitimacy as the country’s president. She expressed concerns about potential exploitation of Venezuela’s resources under a regime change.
