The Budget session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha is ongoing, with the government emphasizing its efforts to maintain law and order. Despite this, Harvinder Singh Happy, the Sarpanch of Patto village, was fatally shot in broad daylight in Moga district. The attackers, arriving in a vehicle, surrounded him and opened fire, leading to his death despite immediate medical attention.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia criticized the government, highlighting a gap between its claims and the ground reality. He mentioned that there were prior intelligence warnings about threats to the sarpanch, questioning the lack of preventive measures. Majithia drew parallels to a previous incident involving Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s killing, alleging a failure in protecting elected officials.
Majithia further raised concerns about the involvement of AAP MLA Amritpal Singh Sukhanand in the incident and urged for an independent investigation. He pointed out a similar past case in Tarn Taran and criticized the state police for allegedly disregarding intelligence inputs. The situation has sparked debates on the effectiveness of the government’s law and order policies during the ongoing Budget session.
