West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari emphasized a zero-tolerance approach towards hooliganism and extortion targeting industrialists or investors in the state. The government has enacted the West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Act, 2026 to maintain law and order and safeguard investors’ confidence. Adhikari stated that any disruptions like locking factory gates or causing damages would lead to strict police action, ensuring a secure environment for businesses.
Adhikari highlighted the state’s new land procurement policy, distinguishing it from past approaches. He criticized the previous governments for either coercive land acquisition or leaving land procurement entirely to investors. The current government opts for a direct land policy, where the state acquires land for industrial purposes and then transfers it to the relevant projects. Adhikari stressed the government’s commitment to fair land acquisition practices and active involvement in the process.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the recent political change in West Bengal, suggesting that it prevented the exodus of industries to other states. Adhikari credited the shift in regime for attracting investors back to the state and reigniting interest in investments. The positive response from investors indicates a renewed confidence in the state’s business environment under the current administration.
