The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has published the final list for recruiting teachers in state-run schools for classes 11 and 12. The list includes names of qualified candidates from the final interview and those on the waiting list, along with unsuccessful candidates. This panel is for 12,514 vacancies, and the distribution of recommendation letters is expected to start on January 27.
Efforts are being made to complete the teacher recruitment process before the upcoming Assembly elections, as the Supreme Court extended the deadline to August 2026. The WBSSC aims to begin the counseling process from January 27, taking advantage of continuous government holidays starting January 22. Document verification for teacher recruitment was done on December 4 last year, involving over 20,000 candidates across 35 subjects.
The WBSSC acknowledged errors in some candidates’ applications who were still called for interviews and mentioned that some ineligible candidates with criminal records also participated. These candidates have been removed from the list, which has been made public. Approximately 18,000 candidates are expected to receive job recommendation letters or are on the waiting list. The State Level Selection Test (SLST) was conducted in two rounds last September to fill 35,726 teaching positions for classes 9-10 and 11-12, with 23,212 posts for Classes 9 and 10 and 12,514 for Classes 11 and 12.
