The West Bengal Land and Revenue Department plans to survey unused land owned by defunct industrial houses for potential industrial use. The state government aims to repurpose these lands for industrial promotions and MSME clusters, prioritizing projects by first-time entrepreneurs. Any real estate use of these lands will be minimal and considered only if no viable entrepreneurship proposals are available.
The government will implement a “direct land purchase” policy to acquire and allocate land for industrial development. Additionally, a survey will be conducted on unused land within special economic zones (SEZs) to facilitate industrial growth and support new business ventures. The focus is on promoting manufacturing, generating employment, and enhancing tax revenue for the state.
While the previous regimes supported SEZs to boost industrial projects, the current government under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is emphasizing a uniform land procurement policy. This policy extends to industrial promotion, infrastructure development, and land allocation for security purposes near international borders. Furthermore, amendments to the Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act, 1976 are being considered to enhance land availability for industrial and infrastructure projects.
