In a rare occurrence, a woman in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district delivered quadruplets at Hira Kunwar Ba Women’s Hospital. The babies, three girls and a boy, were born prematurely and are currently receiving intensive medical care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The infants, born at around 29 weeks of gestation, have underdeveloped lungs and low birth weight, requiring specialized medical attention.
The mother, Jyoti Kashyap, wife of Arun Kashyap, gave birth to the quadruplets at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday. The hospital staff, including doctors like Dr. Naresh Meena, highlighted the rarity of such a birth event. The babies, with three girls weighing about 1.1 kg each and the fourth girl around 1.2 kg, are significantly below the average weight of a full-term newborn, necessitating careful monitoring.
Dr. Naresh Meena emphasized the need for respiratory support and specialized care for the infants due to their premature birth. The medical team, led by doctors like Dr. Vishal Nagar and Dr. Vijay Bakoliya, is closely monitoring the newborns. Dr. Vishal Nagar expressed astonishment at the rarity of quadruplet births, stating that such instances are extremely uncommon in medical practice.
This is Jyoti Kashyap’s second pregnancy, with the couple already having a four-year-old daughter. While the mother is reported to be in stable condition and has been moved to the gynaecology ward, the newborns remain in the NICU for continuous medical attention. Doctors are cautiously optimistic but stress the importance of vigilant observation due to the premature birth and low birth weight of the babies.
