In a tragic incident in Bangladesh, a 16-year-old Hindu boy named Shanto Kumar Saha was fatally run over during a confrontation with robbers trying to steal his vehicle. The incident took place in the Lalpol area of Feni district on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. Shanto was attacked by unidentified assailants while attending to a passenger’s belongings in his autorickshaw at a filling station.
Relatives and eyewitnesses revealed that the robbers beat Shanto and threw him under a culvert on the highway in an attempt to rob him. Despite getting up and chasing the robbers, Shanto was pushed onto the road where he was hit by a vehicle and killed instantly. The Feni Additional Superintendent of Police, Nishat Tabassum, confirmed the incident and stated that the police recovered Shanto’s body and sent it to the Feni General Hospital mortuary.
The family members of Shanto, unable to contact him in the evening, initiated a search and eventually found his body with the help of an auto-rickshaw driver. Shanto’s cousins mentioned that he was targeted by the assailants, who took advantage of the quiet atmosphere during Iftar to hijack his autorickshaw. This incident adds to the concerning trend of violence against Hindu communities in Bangladesh, particularly under the current Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government.
