Genre: Comedy, Coming-of-Age
Director: Kalyan Shankar
Cast: Sangeeth Shobhan, Narne Nithin, Vishnu Oi, Ram Nithin, Priyanka Jawalkar
Duration: Approx. 2 hours
Rating: 3/5
Age Rating: U/A (Suitable for 12+ audiences)

Story & Direction

“Mad Square” picks up the baton from its 2023 predecessor “MAD” and runs with it into even zanier territory. Set in a familiar college backdrop, the film continues to follow the misadventures of three chaotic yet lovable friends. Director Kalyan Shankar keeps the energy high, relying on situational humor, relatable college antics, and the effortless chemistry between his leads to carry the film.

Unlike heavy plot-driven narratives, this film leans into its identity as a feel-good comedy. The stakes are low, but the laughs are frequent — a conscious choice that works well for its target audience.

Performances

  • Sangeeth Shobhan, Narne Nithin, and Vishnu Oi once again prove they are a comedy trio to watch. Their impeccable timing and expressive performances bring both heart and humor.
  • Priyanka Jawalkar shines in her role, adding balance and a fresh dynamic to the group.
  • Ram Nithin and supporting characters contribute meaningfully without feeling overused.

The charm lies in their natural camaraderie, and it’s this authentic bonding that gives the film its soul.

Music & Visuals

  • Music by Bheems Ceciroleo is a mixed bag. While the standout track “Swathi Reddy” brings an energetic vibe, the rest of the soundtrack is serviceable but not memorable.
  • Cinematography by Shamdat Sainudeen captures college life with vibrancy and adds visual polish to the otherwise simple storytelling.
  • Editing by Navin Nooli keeps the pace brisk, although a few scenes could have benefited from tighter cuts.

What Works

  • The effortless chemistry among the trio
  • Relatable college comedy and nostalgia
  • Lighthearted tone with good comic timing
  • Strong visual aesthetics

What Doesn’t

  • Thin storyline with predictable beats
  • Some jokes feel repetitive or overly stretched
  • Music could have been more impactful

Final Verdict

Mad Square is a wholesome, breezy entertainer that understands its audience. It doesn’t aim to reinvent the wheel but excels in delivering comfort comedy with a generous helping of chaos. If you enjoyed the first film, this one will feel like a welcome reunion with old friends.

Final Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
