A tragic incident occurred in Bengaluru’s Chikkabanasawadi area when a 17-year-old boy lost his life and a 32-year-old man was injured due to a collapsed compound wall at Prudent Homes Apartment on 5th Cross. The deceased teenager hailed from Raichur district.
The victims were trapped under debris as the compound wall suddenly gave way, leading to the fatal accident. The injured man, Doolayya, is receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
Authorities have initiated a case against the apartment owner in connection with the incident, with ongoing investigations to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the wall collapse.
More details are anticipated as the police continue their probe into the tragic event. The incident is reminiscent of a similar tragedy on April 29, when seven individuals lost their lives due to a collapsed compound wall at Bowring Hospital following heavy rain and storms.
An investigative report submitted to Lokayukta Justice B.S. Patil highlighted that the Bowring Hospital incident could have been prevented if necessary actions had been taken by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and the BBMP to address encroachments and repair the damaged wall.
The report emphasized discrepancies in the height and structure of the compound wall, pointing out the lack of essential features like weep holes for rainwater discharge. It also underscored the importance of proactive measures by authorities to identify and address potential hazards in the city.
Chief Secretary Shalini Rajaneesh informed the Lokayukta about the initiation of a criminal case against the contractor and issuance of notices to the engineers involved in the construction of the ill-fated wall.
