The Ahmedabad Crime Branch apprehended a three-man gang that targeted senior citizens in thefts. The accused lured elderly passengers into autorickshaws and stole cash and gold ornaments during the rides. The arrests are linked to a case at the Sardarnagar police station.
The arrested individuals, identified as Mohmad Yunus alias Chacha, Imtiyaz alias Kuli, and Sakil, all residents of Ahmedabad, were caught beneath Jamalpur Bridge while traveling in an autorickshaw with stolen property. The case unfolded after a retired SRP police inspector reported being robbed while en route to a wedding, carrying his pension and gold ornaments.
Police recovered stolen items, including gold jewelry and cash amounting to Rs 15,38,000. The investigation, which involved examining CCTV footage and human intelligence inputs, took nearly five days to trace the culprits. The accused deliberately targeted elderly passengers, diverting their attention during journeys to steal valuables from their bags.
The gang faces charges under Sections 303(2) and 54 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. During interrogation, the accused admitted to other similar offenses in the city. Records show prior cases against the accused, with Chacha facing four cases, Imtiyaz two, and Sakil one. Investigations are ongoing.
