Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has urged the Central Government to allocate funds for the state, covering various Centrally Sponsored Schemes and past commitments. Naidu held discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister for Jal Shakti CR Patil in New Delhi. He appealed to the Home Minister for funds related to pending projects and issues arising from the state’s division.
During the meeting with Union Minister for Jal Shakti CR Patil, CM Naidu sought resolution for critical matters concerning the Polavaram Project. He stressed the importance of cooperation to ensure the project’s completion before the 2027 Godavari Pushkarams. Naidu specifically highlighted the need to finish civil works to enable water storage up to 41.15 meters in the initial phase.
The Chief Minister requested the permanent withdrawal of the “Stop Work Order” for the Polavaram Project to expedite progress without obstacles. He also mentioned the increased carrying capacity of both canals to 17,500 cusecs to meet irrigation needs. Naidu asked for reimbursement of funds for this enhanced capacity and urged the sanctioning of funds for the project’s subsequent phases.
Naidu emphasized the potential risks to Andhra Pradesh if the height of the Almatti Dam is increased and requested no clearances be granted until the Supreme Court’s final decision. He also called for clearances for the Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project to utilize floodwaters beneficially. Additionally, the Chief Minister sought funds for the restoration and modernization of state irrigation schemes under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY).
